🏡 bailiwick

being a bailiff, gently

The lord is far away and the village is very near. You are the bailiff: you keep the accounts, settle the squabbles, mend what's mending-shaped and try to make the quarter-day audit go well enough.

Every morning the day deals you a handful of dice and a list of matters. Put a die on a matter, add your skill, and see how it goes — a good die makes a good day, a bad one makes a story. Push yourself to nudge a die up, at the cost of weariness. When you're done, sunset comes, the estate earns a little, and a new day begins. Dues keep gathering while you're away.

Each run is a different manor with its own village, lord and omen. There's no end: improve it forever, or hand it on and start a new one with the skills you've kept. Your game is saved as a single record in your own PDS (net.bisks.bailiwick.manor) — that's the only thing this site ever writes.
